Furina was one of fifteen deities with official cults in the Pontifical College of the Roman Republic. As such, her sacred grove on the Janiculum was attended by a flamine (high priest of official cult). Furina was associated with water and with her festival falling between Lucaria and Neptunalia, it is thought that this grouping of festivals was purposefully created in order to deal with the summer droughts.
