Peffernusse is a popular German holiday cookie. It is a variant of German gingerbread whose name, literally translated, means “peppernut”. Unlike regular gingerbread, pfeffernusse dough is rolled into balls before baking then coated with confectioner’s sugar after baked.
Pfeffernusse will be very hard for the first few days, if following a traditional recipe. The solution for this is to dip the cookie in your favorite hot beverage, such as hot chocolate, tea, coffee or even cider.
December 23 is also Roots Day, a day to celebrate your heritage. For many, visiting family during the holidays is one way to return their roots. But for those that may not know their biological family or those that have a deeper need to uncover their roots and fulfill that sense of belonging, why not make some time today and explore the many resources on the internet? You never know what the simple act of looking may bring.
